"I felt that for the story to work, the stepmother had to be as realistic as Cinderella herself," said Directing Animator Frank Thomas. "She couldn't be as cartoony or buffoonish as the stepsisters. I had to find ways to draw her not realistically byt as convincingly as Cinderella was drawn.""
